BODY CLEANSERS: CeraVe, Cetaphil, La Roche Posay, Bioderma, Aveeno.

BODY MOISTURIZER: The best body moisturizer is the one that you can tolerate using and that is also in your budget. Use cream or ointment-based moisturizers that are also fragrance free. Do not use lotion as it will likely dry out your skin in the long term. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly (blue top only), Aveeno Intense Relief, Glaxal Base, CeraVe Cream, Cetaphil cream, Pure coconut oil

HAND AND FOOT MOISTURIZERS: Glysomed Hand Cream (White one only), Neutrogena Norwegian Hand Cream, La Roche Posay Cicaplast Main, Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream. For cracked or fissured skin, a very good product is Uriage Bariederm Fissures Cracks

SHAMPOO: Shampoo is notorious for causing skin irritation on the face, neck and body. Rashes related to shampoo may not be on the scalp as the skin there is very thick. CeraVe Gentle Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner (good for all hair types); Green Cricket Shampoo Fragrance Free; Free and Clear (aka Vanicream) Shampoo. Pick fragrance free: Nécessaire, Bria, DHS, Curelle, Nature Clean, Paula’s Choice.

DANDRUFF SHAMPOO:
- Dercos DS (Selenium + Salicylic Acid, comes in formulations for Normal/Dry scalp or Oily scalp)
- CeraVe Dandruff Shampoo (and Conditioner)
- Nizoral (Ketoconazole)
- Selsun Blue (Selenium)
- Free and Clear/Vanicream Medicated Anti Dandruff Shampoo (Zinc pyrithione)
- Head and Shoulder (Zinc pyrithione, try to use the Head and Shoulders “BARE” with minimal ingredients to avoid allergenic ingredients such as certain preservatives (there’s BARE “Pure Clean” for oily scaly and BARE “Soothing Hydration” for dry scalp)

LIP BALMS: Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. There is a high rate of allergy with other lip products.

TOOTHPASTE: Use a toothpaste that is fruit or bubble gum flavoured (e.g. Children’s toothpaste) for dry, irritated, cracked, itchy or painful lips. Mint and cinnamon should be avoided in lip issues.

KERATOLYTIC TOPICALS: for patients with keratosis pilaris (KP) - Amlactin or Lachydrin (purchase online), Reversa skin smoothing lotion, Neostrata Glycolic, CeraVe SA, Uresec, Uremol.

HAIR DYE/COLOUR: Can be very challenging, in general look for “PPD free”. Pure Red Henna based is OK. Some potential examples: Elumen Hair Dye by Goldwell, Light Mountain Naturals

SUNSCREENS: Look for a sunscreen that is at SPF 30+ for the body and SPF 50+ for the face, and that also has broad spectrum protection. If you have sensitive skin, look for a sunscreen that is 100% mineral based (e.g. zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide). If you have areas of hyperpigmentation consider a sunscreen that has a tint. Skinceuticals Physical Fusion (need to purchase online or from a dermatology clinic); Elta MD (tends to be thicker and shinier, perhaps better for drier skin types); Also CeraVe, Cetaphil, Clinique, Aveeno, Avene, La Roche Posay (has chemical/organic sunscreen) etc.
